The life of a trucker is a life spent on the road, a lot. They are alone, a lot. And let\u2019s face it, being on the road can be difficult for truck drivers at times. It can bring loneliness.\u00a0Being away from family and friends for a long period of time will take a toll on anyone. For truckers, this is just a day in the life. The feeling of loneliness is a feeling no one should feel on a daily basis. Here are a few tips that we\u2019ve received about how to deal with the loneliness and make the days easier.<\/p>\n

Tips for Overcoming Loneliness as a Truck Driver<\/h1>\n

Furry Friends:<\/h3>\n

The best way to avoid loneliness is to have a \u201cman\u2019s (or woman’s) best friend\u201d with them. Bringing a dog or animal<\/a> on the road with you is absolutely allowed. Doing so will not only provide someone to talk to (without judgment) but to play and cuddle with. They will not only help curb loneliness but can also help with staying in shape.\u00a0 Feeding them and taking them for walks will keep you\u00a0occupied and smiling. Having someone to take care of will give you a feeling of responsibility. Haven’t you heard? Pets are life’s best companions.<\/p>\n

Video Chat:<\/h3>\n

Today, one in three people are video chatting at least once a week. This means that video call<\/a> will be used just as much as voice call in no time. Great news for truckers: it is easy to see and stay in touch with family and friends 24\/7.\u00a0 Being able to see friends and loved ones is key in combatting loneliness. Feeling connected and not having to miss out\u00a0on certain events or what\u2019s going on in your inner circle, all because of a phone.<\/p>\n

Podcasts:<\/h3>\n

From sports podcasts to news podcasts to crime podcasts, it is easy to find a one to enjoy. For those who are familiar with podcasts, they can make the time fly by! There are so\u00a0<\/em>many options out there, it will feel like there isn’t enough time in a day. Plus, with the radio being as repetitive as it is, it’s always nice being able to take a break from the radio.\u00a0Podcasts<\/a>\u00a0generally range anywhere from 10 minutes to over two hours. For specific podcasts on truckers, look no further.<\/a><\/p>\n

Pal in the Passenger Seat:<\/h3>\n

Depending on the company you work for, they can offer rider policies that allow a passenger to join the trucker on the open road. Loneliness will then be avoided altogether…problem solved! Being able to share your passion in trucking and show them what it’s like being on the road for hours on end will give them a better understanding of all the things it takes to be a trucker; the good and the tough stuff. Experience and focus should be a part of the skillset before asking someone to come along for the ride. Safety first!<\/p>\n
